The M7 Class of locomotive was designed by Drummond to work on the LSWR lines around London. The design proved to very capable and in all 105 were built in the Nine Elms and Eastleigh works of the LSWR between 1897 and 1911. During its long and productive lifetime the locomotive went through many design modifications including an extended frame and equipment to enable t to operate `Push-Pull’ services. The locomotive remained in service until the early 1960s and two survive into preservation.
